New Sealing System for Multi-cable Transits

Transits with large cable assemblies often look like a plate of spaghetti. The huge number of cables does not only make the transit confusing but it is virtually impossible to expand the cable assembly. BEELE Engineering changes all this with its CONTROFIL transit system. The system enables the orderly and controlled transit of large numbers of cables, while simplifying future expansion of the cable assembly.

The CONTROFIL system was initially developed for a leading train manufacturer, as a fire-resistant and maintenance and service-friendly solution for trains. The system is now also used for cable transits in walls, floors, bulkheads and decks in other sectors, including shipbuilding and other industries. CONTROFIL prevents overfilling of fire-resistant and gas and watertight transits.

The CONTROFIL sealing system comprises a combination of transit blocks and multi-transit sleeves, filler sleeves and filler blocks. Following installation of the blocks and sleeves, the transit opening is finished with a sealant layer on both sides. This sealant layer is 15 or 20 mm, depending on the application. In contrast to existing 'block systems', the CONTROLFIL system blocks are only intended as transit modules and not as sealing blocks that must be compressed.

To simplify the system even further, in addition to transit blocks and transit and filler sleeves, the CONTROFIL program also has various types of transit frames that can be linked together. The frames are manufactured from HR plastic and can be fitted in concrete. Moreover, as the system does not contain any metal components, no corrosion can occur in the sealing system.

CONTROFIL multi-cable transits were tested according to EN 1366-3:2009 during a four-hour fire test in a 100 mm-thick wall; fire rating EI60/E240. The cable transits are also seawater, UV, ozone and weather-resistant. As high-tech silicone compounds are used as base for the blocks and sleeves, the system offers exceptional durability.
